FineToday Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director, CEO: Tetsuo Komori) will participate in the “Model Project for the Carbon Footprint of Products and Services (Support for Industry Associations and Corporate Groups)” implemented by the Ministry of the Environment, Government of Japan (hereinafter, “the Project”). Together with the Japan Cosmetic Industry Association and six other member companies, FineToday will work to standardize the calculation rules for greenhouse gas emissions (carbon footprint; hereinafter, “CFP”) established by the industry association.
To realize a society in which consumers can actively choose products and services that contribute to decarbonization, it is essential to enhance the visibility of CFP across the entire life cycle of products and services.
To this end, the Ministry of the Environment is implementing the Project to support the development of common rules for the calculation and labeling of CFP by industry associations and corporate groups*1. The Japan Cosmetic Industry Association and seven member companies, including FineToday, have been selected to participate in this initiative*2.
Through the Project, we will establish a foundation for cosmetics companies to understand their own emissions and take concrete actions toward reduction. We will also promote the creation of products that consumers can trust and the building of a sustainable society by pursuing both reduced environmental impact and high quality. Furthermore, by proactively addressing global environmental issues, we will work toward the creation of sustainable value.
The FineToday Group has established the materiality framework “Fine Today & Tomorrow,” which outlines key issues to be addressed by 2030 in pursuit of our purpose, to enrich the lives of everyone today and for generations to come, one fine day at a time. This framework is built on the four main areas of Principles of Governance, People, Planet, and Prosperity.
Under “planet,” we have designated climate change response as a priority area and are actively working to reduce CFP. For example, we have set targets to reduce our direct greenhouse gas emissions by 42% and indirect emissions across the value chain by 25% by 2030, compared to 2021 levels. These targets have been certified under the SBTi’s “1.5°C target”*3. In addition, we are promoting concrete CFP reduction measures such as the installation of solar panels on the rooftop of our factory facilities in Vietnam*4.
Going forward, the FineToday Group will continue to balance business activities with the conservation of the global environment and contribute to the realization of a sustainable society.
