Fine Today Shiseido Submits Commitment Letter to Obtain Science Based Targets (SBT) Certification
Fine Today Shiseido Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director, President and CEO: Tetsuo Komori) has decided to set mid-to-long term greenhouse gas emission reduction targets. We aim to obtain Science Based Targets (SBT)*1 certification, which verifies compliance in working to meet the goals of the UN Paris Agreement*2, and we have now submitted a commitment letter detailing our targets to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) secretariat*3.
As stated in our mid-to-long-term vision "Fine Today & Tomorrow 2030," formulated in July 2022, we consider addressing climate change to be a critical issue. In addition, in both our Basic Environmental Policy and our materiality items, in which we set forth our ESG issues, we identify "response to climate change" as a key issue.
In line with the UN Paris Agreement and other international norms, we have set appropriate greenhouse gas reduction targets upon which we will base our reduction activities. At the same time, we will continue to address climate change by balancing our business activities with environmental conservation so that we may pass on a beautiful global environment to future generations.
*1 Science Based Targets (SBT): Targets consistent with reductions in greenhouse gas emissions required to achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement, which are based on the latest climate change science.
*2 UN Paris Agreement: Adopted in 2015 under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. The most recent international climate change agreement entered into by numerous countries around the world. Sets a common global target of "holding the increase in the global average temperature to well below 2℃ above pre-industrial levels and pursuing efforts to limit the temperature increase to 1.5℃ above pre-industrial levels," which was not achieved under the Kyoto Protocol.
*3 Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi): A collaborative initiative between the CDP (formerly the Carbon Disclosure Project), the UN Global Compact, the World Resources Institute, and World Wide Fund for Nature Inc. An independent assessor of corporate greenhouse gas reduction targets.
